[7.50/10] Nanny McPhee Returns (2010)

Nanny McPhee Returns (2010)

It's easy to say, that "Nanny McPhee Returns" is a sequel, that is equally as good, refreshing and enjoyable as its predecessor, and in some ways even better. It's a familiar story of a parent, Maggie Gyllenhaal's Mrs Green, whose husband is off fighting, over-run by unruly kids and a financial problem to solve. Despite its predictable plot, this sequel works on so many levels. Featuring some truly funny moments, delivered by very good young actors, and once again brilliantly-acted by the lovely Emma Thompson, the second "Nanny McPhee" film is pure joy to watch! The new film has an all-star cast just as the first, is fantastically British, charming and witty, and appeals to all ages. And while I didn't expected to see Maggie Gyllenhaal in it, I have to admit she was excellent as Mrs Green - the smiley and likeable mother/aunt of the mischievous children. A few unexpected cameos from Ralph Fiennes and Ewan McGregors only add to the fun. Visually, "Nanny McPhee Returns" was a also delight - bright and vivid colors, brilliant cinematography, beautiful landscapes... I was blown away by its old-fashioned, yet magically colorful style and stunning settings. The script Emma Thompson written was also fantastically funny and entertaining, and the pacing was pitch-perfect. Susanna White's direction was dynamic and often creative - she deserves kudos for what she did with this movie. Visually-addictive, highly enjoyable and thoughtfully engaging, "Nanny McPhee Returns" is the perfect family entertainment.

  • My Rating: 7.50/10
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 89% (7.1/10)
  • IMDb: 6.8/10

Don't think it's out in theaters in the USA yet, but I did see a preview last week. Almost didn't recognize Emma Thompson.
