[4.00/10] Our Family Wedding (2010)

Our Family Wedding (2010)

Short review: Lucia and Marcus are the newly engaged couple coming home to break the engagement news to both families, but their story is only the start. Lucia's Mexican-American family and her fiance's African-American family experience a cultural wedding crash, and we, the audience, experience one formulaic, predictable and not-that-funny dramedy, that early loses its potential, despite the talented actors involved. "Our Family Wedding" recycles far too many ideas from previous movies of the same genre, without offering almost anything new and original, except for the interesting choice to combine these two ethnics in one movie. Thanks to its wonderful cast, "Our Family Wedding" isn't completely horrible. America Ferrera is fantastic here. She’s bright, fresh and likable as Lucia, and makes her character seem real. Lance Gross as Marcus is pretty bland and stiff, but I've seen worse. They both have nice on-screen chemistry though, and they're believable as a couple. Miguel Ramirez as Lucia's father, Carlos Mencia is a joy to watch and very hilarious, without being over the top. Whitaker's Brad isn't very likable character, but thanks to Forest's acting talent and charisma, we easily forgive his flaws. "Our Family Wedding" is decently-acted and shot, but it's full of tired cliches and silly ethnic jokes that don’t quite work.
