Catacombs (2007)
In "Catacombs", Shannyn Sossamon stars as a loner girl whose been invited to Paris by her sister, pop star Alicia "Pink" Moore in her acting debut. They wind up going to a rave under the city of lights in the biggest mass grave in history: The Catacombs. After her arrival, Sossamon gets lost in the Catacombs and is stalked by some kind of maniac. It's an interesting concept that falls flat. There's just not enough story to go the distance, so basically the majority of the movie is spent watching the increasingly-distraught heroine running up and down many, many gloomy corridors and stumbling through several half-lit service-rooms until you just can't take it any more and the fast forward button begins to earn its keep. And then we reach the ending - ridiculous and disasterously bad! That's what "Catacombs" is - lots of running and screaming, but no scares and no suspense! The acting is mediocre, at times even terrible. Shannen Sossomon is undoubtly gorgeous to look at, but she obviously can't act. Pink is even worse - her Carolyn is probably one of the most annoying horror characters ever. Overall, none of the characters are engaging and honestly you never learn enough about them to become invested. The Catacombs themselves are just dark, dusty and full of skeletons, mostly skulls, and there is not much variety as far as the design of the background is concern, the decors repeat every other scene. Despite its claustrophobic atmosphere and creepy settings, "Catacombs" is dull, monotonous, poorly-executed, and worst of all, completely boring.
