[5.25/10] Farmhouse (2008)

Farmhouse (2008)

The movie tells the story about a young couple who are relocating to San Diego due to a dark past they have. After a car accident on the highway, they find themselves at a local farmhouse, run by another couple - Sameal and Lilith. We're treated to the details through a bunch of tedious flashbacks, which still manage to be vague, so we never really know what is going on. These flashbacks are shown so sporadically, that one forgets that they're supposed to have a point at the end. William Lee Scott plays the father of a handicapped child and Jamie Anne Allman the mother. W. L. Scott's acting was atrocious! He keeps the same facial expression through the entire movie and he was often annoying to look at. Jamie Anne Allman was mediocre at best. Steven Weber delivers a fine performance as Samael and so does Kelly Hu as his wife. In terms of visuals, "Farmhouse" is one of the better-looking straight-to-video movies you can find. It doesn't look cheap at all, or low in production values and it's nicely shot. Adding one of the most twisted and brutal torture sequences in recent history of horror movies, "Farmhouse", does not shy from the gore or violence, yet the focus of the film is in delivering a tense and suspenseful story. And it succeeds at least for most part. The twist ending isn't shocking at all, even though you won't see it coming. It's just ridiculous, devoid of any true resolution, and worst of all it completely ruined this otherwise decent horror film. It was the same case with French horror flick "High Tension" - great movie, terrible ending! Not only the ending was horribly ridiculous, but it also was a rip-off of another million times better horror movie, "Dead End". All in all, "Farmhouse" isn't terrible, but there's just nothing special in it, except for a few superbly made torture scenes and nice cinematography. And that not-that-clever twist at the end just doesn't work at all.

  • My Rating: 5.25/10
  • Rotten Tomatoes: N/A
  • IMDb: 5.6/10

During the 'grater' torture scene I had to cover my eyes. It was that disgusting!
