[7.00/10] My Week with Marilyn (2011)

My Week with Marilyn (2011)

QuickRating: Even though it is based on a true story, the plot itself is hardly anything special, but Curtis' "My Week with Marilyn" is nonetheless a truly engaging and thoroughly entertaining bio-drama about the most popular woman of all time, that fascinates with its vibrant visuals and refined direction, but what makes it truly outstanding is the sensational performance by Michelle Williams who captures the spirit of Monroe quite perfectly.

Fairly good movie, although perhaps a bit boring from time to time.

I really loved this movie and I thought Michelle's performance here was truly encapsulating of Marilyn's dual nature. I agree, it was not big plot-wise, but rather it's a great slice-of-life feature and I'd see it again.

A very nice review, George. I'm glad you liked the movie. Michelle worked very hard to embody Marilyn in the movie - and while I think she deserved the Oscar more than the actual winner - at least her true fans realize what a fantastic performance it is. Cheers!

Definitely want to see this one.

Hans, i thought it was a bit better than 'fairly good'. It wasn't pretentious, it was pleasant to watch, and Williams' performance was absolutely mesmerizing. Didn't get bored by it at all. :) I guess it's a matter of taste.

Mel, glad you liked this one so much. I did too. My mom also watched it and was very pleased by it. Michelle blew me away. She was amazing as Marilyn!

Craig, I wish I could have written a longer and more detailed review, but I honestly have no time for that.
Michele was phenomenal in this one, and not sure if she was better than Streep, but she was definitely on par with her performance-wise. Truly fantastic!

farawayeyes, see it as soon as you can. It's a beautiful movie.

perhaps "fairly" wasn't the right word for me to use. I also used it in my War Horse comment. I rated both those films 6 on my IMDB-profile.

Hans, don't bother. ;) English isn't my first language either, therefore I my choice of words isn't always perfect either. Would you give me the link of your IMDb profile? I'd love to check it out.

well, there isn't much to see really. I just use it to rate the films I see and that was I keep track of what I've seen. I haven't been doing it for a long time, so there are tons of films from the past that I haven't included, but I do as I come to think of them :)

anyways, here's the link, but I am not even sure you'll see how I rated, but just what I've rated, so there's really not much to see.

Hans, don't worry about it. I'm jst curious to see which are your favorite movies and if we're coming from the same planet when speaking of cinema. :) I once had a journal over at Rotten Tomatoes, but a 3 or 4 years ago they changed the interface completely and screwed up pretty much everything. Thankfully, soon after that I found blogger. :)

i actually had a rotten tomatoes profile as well. I remember that a lot of people left after the make-over. However, I kept on going for a while, but after starting to rate films on IMDB I gave up on it too.

here's a link to the profile. Mostly ratings and short comments to films rather than reviews :)

Hans, they left because the makeover was unnecessary. If it ain't broken don't fix it. It looked great the way it was. In fact I was quite obsessed with my RT journal, and I had hard times getting over it.
I created it back in 2004 and it was like a child to me. LOL.
I'll check yours out. ;)

Just came home from theater - I loved it! fabulously written, fabulously directed, and with a splendid cast (most notably Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh & Eddie Redmayne). Amazing soundtrack, beautiful settings and gorgeous camera work - 9/10

Harry, wow, you're being so generous lately. :) I agree, it was a beautiful movie, and Michele delivered big time, but the plot was too simplistic for me.
