[6.50/10] Ci Ling a.k.a The Treasure Hunter (2009)

The Treasure Hunter (2009)

Short review: "The Treasure Hunter"'s story is intentionally unclear as you go and a lot of the character’s backstories are told through flashbacks as the movie goes. The jumbled story's covered by the action, which is not great by any means but it is entertaining. Tony Ching’s fight choreography, though far from brilliant, is filled with plenty of slow-mo shots and wire-fu works, that make the fights fun to watch. The hybrid production set combines worlds that are both ancient and modern, so the movie can be very unsettling at times. Jay Chou was decent in Zhang Yimou's visual masterpiece "Curse of the Golden Flower", but that's not the case here - he's is not acting - he is basically playing himself. Meanwhile Lin, Taiwan’s number one supermodel, is stunning but just painful to look at. What’s left in this Yen-ping Chu’s movie is the first-rate production values. The lush cinematography and Ricky Ho's score is what really save "The Treasure Hunter"!
