The Thaw (2009)
Short review: The director, crew and actors all put their heart and much thought into "The Thaw". You can sense they feel for the serioussnes of the subject matter. Film's scientific basis has a deep moral lesson for humanity today. Whether it be parasites or a meteorite strike, the movie depicts just how easily mankind can be annihilated by his own brave little misadventures. The CGI bugs are just convincing enough, and the other effects are good and former A-list actor Val Kilmer is quiet believable as the scientist father of one of the kids, but while the plot revolves largely around Kilmer's character, he doesn't get very much screen time. "The Thaw" is decent little chiller and a definite step up from the usual B movie sci-fi horror crap that's been out in theaters this year.
