Antichrist (2009)
QuickRating: "Antichrist" is beautifully shot, visually superb, and the performances by the two actors are quite good. Some may view this as an art piece but for me it does not achieve this. The plot is fanciful, pedestrian, and unrelentingly grim. There is simply no reason to feel anything other than mild disgust and puzzlement as you watch this bleak and largely soulless story drag itself to it's completely pointless conclusion. A film should engage its audience and provide a reason to keep watching, but unfortunately, "Antichrist "completely failed on this most critical of points.
- My Rating: 5.00/10
- Rotten Tomatoes: 48% (5.3/10)
- IMDb: 6.9/10

I'm not sure if this movie deserves even one star.
Ha-ha! :) It's not that bad, Dez! I just thought it was way too pretentious! Most of Lars von Trier's films are difficult to watch, but I think there's something special in every single one of them, except "Dogville" - this movie was an experimental SHIT!:)
ha - ha :))
I consider DOGVILLE his only good movie :)))
It is actually on my top 20 best movies ever :PPP
But ANTICHRIST is a product of a sick mind, a totally unnecessary movie which should have stayed in his head (or possibly in his shrink's office) :)
I'm curious to see your 'best movies ever' list!;)
DOGVILLE was made with zero imagination! That's why I hated it. And I think movies are all about imagination and entertainment! ;)
I'm not a kind of person who would make such lists :) But you can see my favourite movies and actors here in my profile. Judging from your own list, I think we have something in common - we both appreciate visually perfect movies with deep stories but also the ones which bring glamorous adventure to the big screens.
The imagination in DOGVILLE wasn't used in a visual sense (although I actually think it was, because it takes amazing imagination to make a set which works without actually using real sets :))) but in a deeper sense in telling the story.
The profound, but totally sharp and clear, satire of the plot is what makes DOGVILLE one of the biggest movies ever, together with outstanding performances from Kidman, Bettany, Lauren Bacall, Patricia Clarkson ... and the historical and groundbreaking role of Jeremy Davies. It is a kind of movie which shakes you and takes you through catharses, and leaves you wiser and enlightened. It's for those who love to feel the drama not just see it :))
I love it and deeply respect it because it is one of the rare movies which has a social and political responsibility and importance (like last year's READER for example). It real art, not cinema.
