Quick Review: Humorless, overly serious, a bit too obvious at times, and borrowing from other sci-fi films, if fueled with enough power to keep its pacing energy, "Mortal Engines" won't be remembered for originality or strong characterization, but for its never-seen-before post-apocalyptic, albeit futuristic imagery of motorized cities on wheels, astounding effects, the grim, gritty, and cool steampunk visual style, and all the scenes with the formidable Shrike, who gives the movie a touch of horror.

I wondered about the tone of the film. I'm not excited to see it but I'm sure we'll go anyway.
The tone is very dark, Alex, but cool nonetheless.
