Quick Review: No, "The Novice" is not your regular sports movie about passion, ambition, and wild rivalry -- it is a character study of a young woman with obsession so extreme, she enters some really dark territory with mental consequences, and it's a depiction that wouldn't have been as credible, raw, and disturbing, if it wasn't for Isabelle Fuhrman's nervy, uptight, and brilliantly tense central performance of a deeply unlikable, yet absorbing character you simply can't take your eyes off.

A deeply unlikable, yet absorbing character you simply can't take your eyes off - so like watching a train wreck?
Lol, not really. A character can be unlikable and still engaging as hell. :)
