Quick Review: Not for mass tastes for many reasons, "First Reformed" demands some patience and focus for being slow-moving, delicate in its approach, somber, and concerning some sensitive subjects, but those who appreciate the unusual will find this story about despair and belief mesmerizing and quietly disturbing, apart from its shocking, if somewhat underwhelming climax. All technical precision aside, it's Hawke and his subtle performance that makes this movie truly worth-seeing.
