[8.25/10] Rango (2011)

Rango (2011)

Brief review:
From the creator of the super-spooky "The Ring", and the wildly popular "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, here comes "Rango" - the most creative, witty and oddly enjoyable animated flick, released in the past couple of years. While "Rango" can't boast with great originality story-wise, its execution is so flawless and breathtakingly-brilliant, its plot weaknesses can be forgiven. Though it drags here and there and is a bit too moody in places, the story is well-paced, balancing action, narrative and dialogue quite nicely. The witty and cleverly-written script gives depth to the characters and their quirky, colorful personalities, and makes the audience feel connected to them. Furthermore, "Rango" is a true visual splendor! Gore Verbinski certainly has an eye for detail, and it shows. The animation is so masterfully-crafted and extraordinarily-detailed, you won't believe your eyes. Although the director avoids bright and vivid colors, and uses more muted color palette, the CGI sets are still eye-catching and quite beautiful, and each of the characters is stunningly-designed, if not exactly sweet or very charming. The action scene in the second half is definitely the highlight of the movie, along with Johnny Depp and Isla Fisher's spectacular voice acting.

Overall summary: Charmingly-bizarre, smartly-written and beautifully-crafted, "Rango" is undoubtedly one of the most visually-unique animated features ever created, and certainly the quirkiest one, and it will appeal to anyone with an open mind and great imagination.

You summed it up perfectly. Very quirky and most amazing and detailed animation so far.

I can't wait to see this. I love the choices Johnny makes when doing animation like The Corpse Bride. It was fantastic. "Charmingly bizarre" is definitely a quality I appreciate. :)

That was an amazing review!! Spot on. I really enjoyed "Rango" and I don't usually see too many animations but this one was truly captivating for me. You know I think you're right about this not being necessarily for children. I can't imagine kids actually understanding it. I can see them engaged visually but I almost think that may not be enough. I do know that some of my friends nephews/nieces and siblings (ages 4-8) didn't really take to it however adults certainly have.

Sushi and I thank you soo much for his Birthday Wishes!! : ) I'm assuming he had a good one since I stuffed him with treats. Hahaha, he loves his peanut butter!
I definitely wouldn't call myself a good cook. Although, I have recently become obsessed with baking ever since I hosted some parties for my friends. Now I can't stop making pastries, cupcakes and cookies. The weird thing is, I don't really care to eat them I just enjoy making them. I'm weird, I know. : ) My friends definitely benefit from it though! I'm so glad they look good! Yay!! Thank you so much, you're so sweet!! ; )

And you know what?!! There is only 01 more week until the release of "SUCKER PUNCH"!! I know you have got to be excited!! haha!! ; )

Have a Great Weekend!!

LoneIslander, it's definitely worth-seeing and, in fact, quite refreshing.

Mel, you should check it out as soon as you can.
"The Corpse Bride" is one of my all time favorite animated flicks - it was near-perfect! "Rango" is a notch below, but still incredible.

Thank you so much, Nicole! :) I'm quite obsessed with animations. Over the years, I realized that the animations are so much better and so much more enjoyable than most live-action films.
I agree with you 100%! Children wouldn't get it, plus the creatures/animals look a bit to gross and scary. They're not some sweet talking animals, are they? :)

Ah, your doggy is so cute, I want to squeeze it. :) You know what, I've once had a French bulldog, named Archie /it comes from Archibald/, but he died of a terrible disease. The day of his death was one of the saddest days of my life. But, hey, that was a long, long time ago. I'm sure he feels great up there - in heaven :)

I don't know.. you look like a good cook to me :) The dishes you make, always look so good and I bet they taste the same :) Not eating the stuff you cook is not much of a surprise to me, because models don't eat these kind of things :P :) Plus, you're such a sweet girl, I'm sure you're cooking just to make your friends pleased. Oh, yeah, they look very good.

One week till Sucker Punch's release! Yey for that! :) Next week I'm gonna see Battle LA and Red Riding Hood /I'm crazy, I know/ and then, it's time for SP. Thankfully, it will be released in my country on the same date as the US.

Oh my goodness you had a French bulldog and his name was Archie~that is soo cute!! I love it. I’m so sorry about what happened… I’m dreading that day myself that’s why I don’t want him to get any older. I’m positive that Archie is very happy up there and waiting. I’m so sorry again. : ( I thank you so much for sharing that with me though. : ) : )

Well thank you! ; ) You’re too sweet, model, I wish. : ) I’m glad you’ll get to see “Sucker Punch” the same time as the US!! I'm curious about “Battle LA” I will be looking forward to all 03 of your reviews!!

Thanks, sweetheart. Archie was such a sweet doggy, I'll never forget him. Don't worry, Nicole, I'm sure your Sushi will live a long and healthy life :)

I'm curious about Battle LA too. I think the critics were too hard on it. I'm sweet? No, you're sweet! :)

As a film buff, this is such great fun. Incredible animation, and brilliant tribute to classics like Chinatown, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. One of my favourite animations made outside of Pixar Studios.
For my opinion on the film, check out my review:http://buckle22.blogspot.com/2011/03/new-release-review-rango-gore-verbinski.html
