QuickRating: Neil Marshall's 2008 sci-fi action flick is nowhere nearly as astounding as his horror hit "The Descent", and it's lacking in creativity script-wise, however, with its constantly gripping plot, thrilling action and chase sequences, gloomy post-apocalyptic settings, and stunningly grim cinematography, "Doomsday" is pure popcorn entertainment at its best. Just turn your brain off, sit back, and enjoy the creepy ride...

I agree, there were scenes that I really liked and then there were ones that came off as silly. Overall, it was fun.
I gave Doomsday the same rating. It's a highly entertaining kick-ass action-flick that I enjoyed a lot. Thumbs up!
Budd, exactly. ;) Actually, I expected another dull visrus-took-over-the-world flick, but I got much more than that. It was fun, indeed.
I totally agree. This movie is really under-appreciated and much closer to the old 1980s classics like the Road Warrior and Escape from New York (intentionally!) than modern video game CGI shoot em ups like Doom and Resident Evil. It rocks, in short. Emma rules!
@Maynard
You did? It's nice to know we agree 100% on this one. I liked it a lot too, especially because of its action-packed plot and great visuals.

Say no more. I'm there! But it sounds like I have to check out Descent first. Either way, this definitely looks like something I have to look into, thanks for the heads up!
yeah, I did. This movie is really, really fun. Bravo Mr. Marshall! :)
Erich, glad you agree. ;)
It was very, very overlooked and it certainly deserved more credit than it was given. I saw it 2 weeks ago and I was like Damn, why didn't I check it out earlier?!
You described it perfectly - it had the 80s feel to it, but with a modern twist.
M. Hufstader, you should definitely check out The Descent first. I know you're a huge action flick geek and Descent is a hard core horror movie, but I think you're gonna dig it.
Give "Doomsday" a shot and let me know what you thought of it :)
Maynard, it is. Over the years, Mr. Marshall proved himself to be ab amazingly versatile director. Bravo, indeed.
Wasn't anything special, but a fun watch.
Alex, it wasn't, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was no Descent or even Dog Soldiers, but it was some pretty cool fun.
Sorry I missed this yesterday, sweetie. I've been going crazy this week. Hope all is well with you. I'll drop you an email soon. Hugs!
No worries, hon. My week has been a crazy ride as well. I've never worked so hard in my life. LOL. Goodbye night owl, hello early evening sleep.
That's great. Looking forward to it. Do not be mad at me if I don't mail you back the same day - my head is so messed up, I might forget about it.
Yep, it wasn't as great as The Descent, nor as fun as Dog Soldiers, but still very entertaining.
