Quick Review: Sad, poignant, and rather wise, "A Monster Calls" deals with grief in a darkly unique way, but also conveys a moral message. J. A. Bayona creates a grim atmosphere by setting a somber tone, soaked in sorrow and gloom that matches the difficult subject. The CGI monster is spot-on, but it is the state-of-the-art watercolor animation that makes the biggest impact, being totally one-of-a-kind. Kebbell gives a powerful, yet emotive performance, and Neeson's voice is pure perfection.

Alex, yes. it requires a certain mood, but it's a great film nonetheless.
