[5.50/10] Chappie (2015)

Chappie (2015)

Quick Review: It has its director signature gritty visual style written all over it, and it's very refreshing to watch the relatively underused Hugh Jackman playing a villain, but Neill Blomkamp's latest and unfortunately weakest effort so far is too muddled, tonally inconsistent, and emotionally disconnected to be fairly successful, properly engaging, or at least a tiny bit enjoyable, and not even its semi- likable titular protagonist, occasional originality, and first class CGI work are able to change that.

I wasn't a big fan of his first film and didn't like the second one. Something told me this wouldn't be any better. The future does look bleak and disconnected to the director, doesn't it?

I liked District 9 quite a lot... it was different, and wonderfully executed. I also enjoyed Elysium. This one obviously not so much.
You may be right, Alex... and I'm a bit worried, since he is signed to direct the next Alien film. Huge Alien fan here!
