[5.75/10] The Barrens (2012)

The Barrens (2012)

QuickRating: After last year's truly disastrous "11-11-11", Darren Lynn Bousman's "The Barrens" is a step in the right direction. The lack of decent budget obviously reflects on some of the films production values such as cinematography, props and practical effects, but thankfully the director makes up for that with an appropriate forest setting and eerie atmosphere, and even though the film is far from terrifying, it blends psychological and visceral horror in an intriguing and unique way.

I blind bought this mainly because I enjoyed Bousman's MOTHER'S DAY remake a great deal.

Needless to say, I enjoyed this as well. I enjoyed the BLAIR WITCH aura it wallowed in towards the middle portion.

The DVD has an extended ending that expands on the monster movie motif the film embraces at the end if you didn't see it, George.

I never saw 11-11-11, by the way.

venoms5, I've never been a fan of any of the Saw film, including Bousman's, but I loved Mother's Day. You should be happy you haven't seen 11-11-11, and I suggest you not to.

I had a love/hate relationship with this one, but in the end, I realized I liked it more than I hated it. :) I'm curious to see the extended ending, explaining more about the monster, but I'm not sure I'll ever buy the DVD.

The worst and cheapest looking horror film monster since the early 90's. I laughed myself silly, when that thing first appeared. I found the rest of the movie rather boring, so it actually was a highlight to me. ;-)

Oliver, although I kind of agree about the lame-looking monster, I didn't find the film to be boring at all. :)
