[3.00/10] Kalevet a.k.a. Rabies (2011)

Kalevet a.k.a.
Rabies (2011)

QuickRating: Israel's first-ever horror movie (and hopefully their last) starts out promising enough, with an utterly claustrophobic and intense opening sequence, but soon after that it turns into a nonsensical mess that despite its familiar scenario tries hard to be original and inventive, but ends up being a boring, confusing and tasteless horror flick with lots of gore, but no scares whatsoever.

Though I hated it a bit more than you, I agree with you. RABIES is a stinking piece of turd, one of the absolute worst horror movies made in 2011. Totally don't understand all the positive reviews.

Maynard, I don't get all the positive feedback either. It was quite atrocious... in a bad way. I think US critic like it simply because it's coming from Israel. If it was American, they would have called it rubbish.

Many times mainstream critics heap praise on a horror film that true horror fans would despise. They don't get our genre, yet try to pretend they do. Great summation of this, I will avoid at all costs.

Mel, I couldn't agree more. They can't get every genre, can they?
Don't bother watching this one, it's so not worth it. Thanks, hon.

Kaijinu, you're not the only one who dug it, but you're one of the few. :)

yep, you're absolutely right. Just because it's from Israel, doesn't mean that it's good.

Harry, glad you agree with me. ;)

I think I digged this because it went beyond my expectations as an "ordinary" slasher film and toyed around with the structure while still possessing the usual cliches. I don't know, I guess i'm just that easy to appreciate an effort. Probably the same reason why I enjoyed Russia's Trackman, too!

I'm so shameful! DON'T LOOK AT ME!

Kaijinu, I didn't find anything extraordinary about it. For me it was one of these 'nice try' movies, that ended up being a big fat mess.
