[8.00/10] A Separation (2011)

A Separation (2011)

QuickRating: Using no gimmicks whatsoever, Iran's 2012 official Oscar entry, "A Separation", is a complex, tensely engrossing and impeccably-acted film, that is as suspenseful and unpredictable as it's affecting and dramatic, whose director never judges his flawed, very human characters, but dares to give us a glimpse at Iran's unfair legal system and the only ostensibly democratic life in this conservative and deeply religious country.

This sounds like it would be very intriguing. I love to read literature about and set in, Iran. It is a fascinating and rather mysterious country with an awful lot of negative labels. I recently saw Persepolis and loved it.

Mel, critics loved it and so did I. It was full of twist and turns, and none of the characters were classified as good or evil. Everything was so real!

I forgot about this one but I will definitely have to see it. It does seem very rare and honest, which always end up being my favorite movies.

Oh goodness I think I put "rare and honest" if so I meant raw and honest, sorry : )

Nicole, it's okay, don't worry about it. ;)

Yes, it's real and honest... but also somewhat disturbing. Iran is not the best country for women to live.
