[7.25/10] The Ides of March (2011)

The Ides of March (2011)

QuickRating: It's not particularly original or shockingly revealing, however, "The Ides of March" remains an intelligent, constantly gripping and wonderfully-written political thriller, that not only deals with relevant subject matter, but also provides the viewer with subtle tension, hidden twists, and an incredible performance by Gosling. Plus, it's another proof that Clooney does a far better job behind the camera than he does in front it.

I love Clooney, always have. To me he's quite impressive as an actor. And I love Paul Giamatti as well. Sounds like a interesting drama that I'd love to see.

So Clooney didn't shine in this one, huh?

Alex, he never does. :)

Mel, Cloony is a mediocre actor. Period. He's facial expressions are ALWAYS the same. Always. He's not versatile and he's a lazy actor.

On a positive note, his directing skills are rather impressive. I would lie if I say he's not a good filmmaker.

Really looking forward to watch this one. Clooney was great in Up in the Air, not so sure of the choice to cast Gosling though.

farawayeyes, give this one a shot. I bet it won't leave you disappointed. ;)

InfinitePlans, it's nowhere nearly as good as Up in the Air, but it's worth-seeing nonetheless.

Gosling delivers a far superior performance in this one, trust me.

Clooney is a skillful director, but as an actor he's a bit one-dimensional.

Oh Gosling he never seems to fail. I will have to see this one especially since it sounds like it doesn't insult one's intelligence. I didn't realize Clooney directed this I'll be excited to see the result of his efforts, which sounds like it was pretty good. : )

Nicole, yes, Gosling can do no wrong. :) Clooney knows what he's doing and he really doesn't disappoint here as a director. The film is gripping from start to finish.

I really enjoyed The Ides of March, but I think I expected it to be more shocking.

Not a fan of Clooney the actor eh? Come on, he was ace in O Brother Where Art Thou? Probably because he was not very Clooney in the role of Ulysses Everett McGill!

Russ, I couldn't agree more with you. It wasn't revealing at all, not to say the shocks were nonexistent.

I know, right? :) He always plays himself, and can't get rid of the ER's Dr. Ross he is still possessed by. :)

just seen it, brilliant film. A good old-fashioned political thriller, well directed, well scripted and with a top notch cast (especially Gosling and Hoffman).
8/10

Maynard, I'm not convinced it's a brilliant film, but it's definitely a solid one.
