[5.50/10] Margin Call (2011)

Margin Call (2011)

QuickRating:
On paper, "Mergin Call" may sounds like an intriguing financial thriller dealing with the origins of current global recession, but despite its clever premise, solid direction and top-notch cast
, J.C. Chandor's debut film ends up being a convoluted, overwritten mess, so surprisingly unengaging and so painfully slow, that will either put you to sleep or bore you to death. And sadly, the lack of entertainment value is a serious shortcoming.

whoops, looks like you didn't like it that much. Surprising, especially because this has gotten loads of praise and even a few awards.

Maynard, I couldn't believe how tedious and underwhelming it was. The most exciting thing about Margin Call was its hype. :)

Several awards? Have these people lost their mind?!

Financial thriller is a fantasy as far as I'm concerned. Finance is boring and I have yet to find anything that has to do with banks and hedge funds exciting. Unless it's the Joker robbing one. ;)

Seriously was not interested in this one in spite of the cast. I was snoring as soon as I read the title. LOL

Mel, if it's a fantasy it's a stupid one. Not very into finance either, but still decided to see it. Well, it was everything I expected it to be - boring, slow and overly talky.

Surprisingly, I was really into this (or the trailer) so it's sad to hear it was a flop. I kind of get into those finance related films. Plus the cast looks pretty awesome. Boo, well I guess I will pass on this one.

Nicole, many people loved this film, but I honestly don't know why. Never really got drawn into the story, plus, it was so talky, it almost cased me a headache. The cast did a good job, but so what? :)

Yeah, the New York Film Critics award for Best First Film, San Francisco Film Critics award for Best Screenplay, the Robert Altman Award etc. etc.
Also many other nominations and I remember an article in an Austrian newspaper praising it as the movie of the year...

Not sure if that's an honest praising, because the movie is nothing special. Give it a shot and you'll see that I'm right. :)
