[5.50/10] Fright Night (2011) [200th Horror Review]

Fright Night (2011)

QuickRating: Mildly entertaining, often silly, never frightening and nowhere nearly as delightfully cheeky and memorable as the original, this 2011 version of "Fright Night" flaunts its talented cast, interesting characters and stylishly-executed gore effects, but sadly, it's neither funny, nor scary, nor smart enough to work as a well-balanced horror comedy, as instead, it ends up being a rather stupid, pointless and mediocre one.

LOL you don't believe what I just finished watching :-)

Really? What a coincidence. I saw it 2 weeks ago, but I got delayed with the review. Didn't like it either. It was so silly.

Well, I admit I'm a huuuge fan of the original and I also love the underrated Part 2. They're both funny, entertaining and full of original characters.

The remake is just bland, boring and packed with unlikable and unoriginal characters - plus: the CGI was just awful.

I didn't have problem with the characters, but the whole execution of it was so lifeless and uninteresting. I actually liked the CGIs. :)

So I am about to lose all kinds of respect, but I LOVED this movie. I was hugely entertained and I thought Colin was wicked cool as the vampire. What a sociopath and so delightfully savage. I still prefer the first, but mostly because of Roddy McDowell, however, I am in love in David Tennant and so gave him points for his interpretation of Peter Vincent. A very big plus for me was that it was written by Marti Noxon from Buffy and she rocks. I thought Imogen did a great job as did Christopher Minz Plasse. My nephew was highly entertained as well and I loved the cameo by Chris Sarandon.

All right, go ahead, make fun and call me all kinds of lame and ridiculous. I can take it. ;)

Mel, you know what? I was sure I'm going to love this one, because I love the original and the cast involved in this remake, but it just didn't happen. The pacing was kinda off, the script was weak and I didn't believe for a minute that Colin is a proper vampire. It just didn't work for me.

i think my biggest problem with this is that it really sexualized the original movie, which kind of took away from it.

Candice, I had more than one problem with it, but I see your point and I agree with you.

Okay, so I agree with you completely however at the same time I enjoyed it. I know, it's totally weird. The first time I saw it in theaters and I wasn't a big fan at all but then I watched it again last week and actually enjoyed it. I'm not sure why either. I think at that point I was prepared for the cheese it had to offer plus I still haven't seen the original, which I know is a big no no. I think it was just nice to see sexy Colin play a vampire after watching wimpy Pattinson in Twilight... maybe. : )

Nicole, I really wanted to like it, but it just didn't work for me at all.

Well, I agree. Colin makes a better vampire than the dead face Pattinson. :)
