[3.75/10] Mr. Popper's Penguins (2011)

Mr. Popper's Penguins (2011)

QuickRating: It has its moments of fun, the penguins are incredibly cute, and the kids even cuter, but "Mr. Popper's Penguins" is an absolutely ridiculous family comedy that suffers from its improbable and laughably absurd script, and Jim Carrey's typically over-the-top acting. His goofiness still brings a few laughs, but it's the penguins that steal the show. And being outshined by an animal, whether real or CGI, is never a good thing.

Thanks for the review, but I don't think I'd even watch this flick on a plane for free. I'd probably watch the Green Lantern first, although I didn't even watch that one on my last two flights across the Atlantic.

Isis, there's no real reason to see Mr. Popper, unless if you're Jim Carrey die hard fan. Green Lantern is million times better than this crap of a comedy, so I think you should give it a shot on your next flight through the Atlantic. :)

Just as I suspected. Thanks George.

It just looked awful in the previews!!

Ricky, you did the right thing to go your gut feeling. It was just plain stupid.

Alex, it was just as bad as it looked.

Back in the 90s, Jim Carrey's over-the-topness was just amazing - nowadays it's just embarrassing.

Well-said, Harry! I just feel uncomfortable watching him, and because he obviously doesn't feel embarrassed, I feel embarrassed instead of him. LOL.

I love penguins, but I'd probably sleep through this. I'm not a Carrey fan as he mostly annoys me, but he had his moments like Bruce Almighty and Liar, Liar. The only two Carrey comedies I laughed at.

HA! That is exactly what I expected. I mean I love Jim Carrey and his quirkiness but the plot of this film sounded and looked ridiculous. I'm glad to get confirmation from your lovely review! Love your QuickRatings.

I don't know, I think that Caesar was the best actor in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and I really enjoyed that. I have absolutely no desire to see Mr Poopers Penguins though.

Russ, I meant that it's bad for the actor whose being outshined, not for us viewers. ;)

Mel, same thing here. Jim Carrey is an absolute goofball. The penguins were so cute though. :)

Nicole, thank you sweetheart. :)
You got it right from the trailers. The plot is insanely ridiculous, and Jim Carrey is, well, Jim Carrey. :)
