Best to Worst Found Footage / Mockumentary Horror Movies Part 2: The Passable

Paranormal Activity 3 (2011)

As expected, "PA3" is 'more of the same' in terms of style and shocks, and is the least scary of the three, however, it goes in a slightly different direction than its predecessors, and as a result it feels a bit refreshing, and is still creepy, and effective enough to leave most fans satisfied.

My Rating: 6.50/10

Lake Mungo (2008)

"Lake Mungo" is an honest mystery, full of secrets and lies, wrapped around a paranormal thriller, that is as gripping as it's chilling.

My Rating: 6.50/10

Grave Encounters (2011)

Although it gets a bit ridiculous and unnecessarily over-the-top towards the end, "Grave Encounters" is still a well-made, often chilling, and utterly claustrophobic mockumentary, that fans of the genre will enjoy.

My Rating: 6.25/10

8213: Gacy House (2010)

Although, the conclusion is a bit disappointing, "8213 : Gacy House" is a spooky moc-doc, which premise feels fresh and unique, and which offers plenty of good old-fashioned jump scares and some truly creepy images.

My Rating: 6.25/10

Though not as terrifying and effective as its two American predecessors, "PA2: Tokyo Night" features some incredibly sympathetic characters, plenty of spooky visuals, and a couple of truly chilling scenes of terror.

My Rating: 6.00/10

Atrocious (2011)

"Atrocious" delivers some believable performances, a couple of truly tense and chilling moments, and a shocking twist at the end, that not only works, but also manages to make up for the screenplay's shortcomings.

My Rating: 6.00/10

I wonder if placing 'Tokyo' in the title hurts a movie? 'Tokyo Drift' was the worst of the Fast and Furious movies as well.

I've not seen any of these here, but have seen LAKE MUNGO in the video store. Didn't realize it was a 'found footage' flick.

Alex, to me it doesn't. I'm a Fast and Furious hater, but I actually enjoyed Tokyo Drift. Oops, we disagree vastly on this one. :)

venoms5, you didn't? Lake Mungo was definitely a found footage movie.. and also a good one. :)

Haven't seen any of these except PA3,which you're right is a passable film especially when compared to the two before it. The other selections appear and sound like they are worth a watch though.

I loved the previous tow PA movies better, but I still enjoyed the third one in a different way.

The other picks are all pretty decent and worth a shot. :)

You've got some interesting choices here. I can see that you are very passionate about this genre, hon. :)

I may give one or two a try, but I won't be watching Gacy House. I remember him all too well and don't care to watch people try and contact his spirit, even if it is all fictional fun.

And I love the Fast and Furious films. Hot men and hot cars... I'm so there, who cares about plot? ;) But I agree with Alex, Tokyo Drift sucked, except for Han...that's my boy. LOL

Yep, I'm a bit obsessed with this sub-genre. Blame [REC] and Blair Witch for that. :)

You know what, I was surprised how much I enjoyed Gacy House. It was a cheap STV movie, but very effective nonetheless.

Not a fan of the F&F franchise except for.. well... Tokyo Drift. It's my favorite of the series. Yes, I'm serious. :)

Ahhh! There are several on this list that I want to see. It reminds me of my failures to see these movies lol! Hopefully I will get to catch up before the end of the year! Another good list my friend!

Which are those you want to see, HorrO? I'm curious. :)

I bet you'll catch up on these. ;)

Thanks!

I really want to see Atrocious. They previewed it here then never showed it. That made me mad! Grave Encounters I have heard good stuff about. And Lake Mungo I have been curious about.

My friend Maynard just posted a review of it, claiming it is terrible. Sorry, but it's not. It's different in a good way and the finale is really shocking.

GE was good, but it went too over-the-top in its second half and the ending was disappointing.

Lake Mungo is freaking creepy!

Lol! You guys are disagreeing! I have heard mixed reviews about it. That usually makes me want to see it more.

HorrO, LOL. Yes, we are disagreeing. It's kinda funny. :P You should see it and decide for yourself though.
