[5.50/10] Just Go With It (2011)

Just Go With It (2011)

Brief review: Another month, another romantic comedy. This time Jennifer Aniston joins Sandler in Dennis Dugan's latest "Just Go With It", which has the exact same problems most rom-coms have - it's extremely predictable, lacking in wit, and filled with countless cliches. However, it still has its moments, and it manages to deliver enough laughs to qualifies itself as passable entertainment. Dugan does a fairly good job behind the camera, avoiding cliched camera work and dull angles, but he definitely should find a new editor for his next film, as Tom Costain completely sucks in that 'role'. "Just Go With It" is also visually appealing, thanks to the gorgeous Hawaiian scenery, and its lush hotels, and luxurious environments. Surprisingly, Jennifer Aniston shows some acting skills this time around, and she's as convincing and believable, as she's charming and funny in her role as Katherine. Adam Sandler, is, well, Adam Sandler. Nicole Kidman not only looks more beautiful than ever, but she absolutely delivers as the snobbish and competitive Devlin. However, it's Bailee Madison and Griffin Gluck that steal the show as the clever, witty kids. Brooklyn Decker is gorgeous head-to-toe, but she appears too stiff and uncomfortable in front of the camera.

Overall summary: Despite its charming, likable cast, moderately amusing script and beautiful shooting locations, "Just Go With It" ended up as just another cliched, formulaic and tremendously predictable rom-com, that will soon be forgotten, even by Sandler's biggest fans.

Sandler's movies are popular no matter what he does.

Man, I wish Sandler would do more daring work. He's got the chops. If you've ever seen Punch Drunk Love, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Of course, a lot of that film's greatness has to do with P.T. Anderson.

That sounds about right. I love Adam Sandler but the films he's a part of are always mediocre, which is fine. I don't know if its my American humor or what but I enjoy Sandler. Initially I really wanted to see this but Jennifer Aniston was my reason to wait for the DVD release. I'm glad to hear see actually acted. haha. I might get to enjoy this one after all. If not I still have the Hawaii scenery to rely on. I wish I could go back to Hawaii it is sooo amazing there!! Great review!!

I'm sure your review is right on. I loved Jen Aniston in FRIENDS, but that's the last time.

I am not big on rom coms so I may skip this altogether. If I watch it, it will be at mom's house because she and my sister love this type of movie. I may check it out since you gave it 5.5 out of 10 and I trust your judgement.

"Tom Costain completely sucks in that role" Don't hold back, sweetie, let me know how you really feel. LOL

Alex, unfortunately, you're right :) I'm saying 'unfortunately', because even his lamest films become hugely popular. Definitely not a fan of his.

Matty, I wish that too. Haven't seen "Punch Drunk Love", but heard great things about it. Everybody claims it's his best film. Not sure if he has the chops, though. In my book, he's one of those actors who plays, well, himself. /if that's make any sense/.

Nicole, it was pretty watchable, actually...there's a lot to be enjoyed, despite its predictability and banality. Sandler isn't my cup of tea, nor is his humor, but I kinda like Jennifer. She's a weak actress, but she always look sincere and natural on screen. Oh, and she did beyond good in this one, compared to what she did in her previous films.
You wish you could go back to Hawaii? That means you've been there? OMG, I'm so jealous right now! :) It one of the most beautiful places on earth. I wish I could go there one day, too.

RaShelle, thanks, dear. I admit Jen did poorly in most of her films, but she shined in few of them. Have you seen "The Good Girl"? Oh, God, you won't believe how good she was in it. She gave a decent performance in "Just Go With It", too. Give it a shot, and decide for yourself. :)

Mel, sweetheart, I didn't hold back at all - Tom Costain did a terrible job as an editor - his editing was dull and lazy, and I hated it.

The movie was okay, though.. cliches aside, it was enjoyable and it had a few good laughs. watch it with your mom and sis - you might like it :)

I stopped watching Sandler-films after 'Click' and 'Chuck and Larry'. I couldn't stand watching more of these mediocre, uninspired and mildly amusing flicks.

btw: watched PAUL 2 days ago - highly recommended! Not as great as Shaun and Hot Fuzz, but still one helluva fun. 8/10

Maynard, "Click" was dreadful. I don't remember a thing about "Chuck and Larry". LOL.
So you liked "Paul"? Based on the previews, it looks like fun, though "Shaun of the Dead" is unsurpassable.
