Numerous QuickRatings PART 4: 2010 Movies [2]

Blue Valentine (2010)

QuickRating:
Although Derek Cianfrance's debut feature "Blue Valentine" is a bit too depressing, moody and melancholic at times, it's still
an emotionally involving, subtly-crafted, outstandingly-performed, and also a very daring film, that unveils the the inconvenient truth about never-lasting love, exploring an unfortunate love-turned-hate relationship.

My Rating: 7.50/10

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010)

QuickRating:
As silly as it sounds, yet thoroughly hilarious, "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil" could be considered as both a ridiculous mess, and an incredibly original horror comedy, injected with a huge dose of wit and humor, that shows how misunderstandings can lead to fatal consequences, in the funniest, goriest and bloodiest possible way.

My Rating: 6.25/10

Djinns (2010)

QuickRating: "Djinns"'s cast does an excellent job in their roles, its settings are incredibly atmospheric, it features some truly spooky images, and the grotesque violence doubles the horror, but sadly, the film never reaches its potential, and it's neither scary nor suspenseful enough to be considered a great horror movie, despite its flawless execution.

My Rating: 5.75/10

L'arnacoeur a.k.a.
Heartbreaker (2010)

QuickRating:
The American rom-com filmmakers should learn some tricks from their French fellas, as "Heartbreaker" is so enjoyable, charming and fantastically-executed, it manages to deliver on many levels, despite its slightly cliched script, and it features a wonderfully-charismatic turn from Johnny Depp's beloved, the gorgeous Vanessa Paradis.

My Rating: 6.50/10

Loved your quick review of Blue Valentine. I liked it better than you. It's in my top 10 of 2010, I just love deep films about family and relationships so much.

Thanks, Lesya. Glad you liked it :) I know you did like it way better than me. /You gave it a perfect 5 out of 5 rating/ I've read your wonderful review and comment on it ;) It was a bit too moody for my taste, but I was blown away by the performances.

So Djinns is like Vanishing on 7th Street - never achieves its potential?

George Beremov [Nebular] said...

Alex, exactly, though Djinns is slightly better than Vanishing.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil sounds right up my alley. I love, love horror comedy even when it's not intentional. :) Blue Valentine was awesome, I love Michelle Williams and her performance was breathtaking. I wish she would work more in bigger films.

I did get your email, responded and hope you received it. Sorry to hear your having problems with it. Have a great weekend, sweetheart. :)

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil was far from perfect, but absolutely hilarious and super-gory! You'll love it.

Blue Valentine's melancholic mood has put me off a bit, but the performances were absolutely phenomenal! I prefer Gosling to Williams.. there's something about Michelle I just don't like. They both deserved to be nominated for Oscars though.

Yeah, hun, I know ;) I read it a few hours ago, and I'll mail you back tomorrow ;) Thanks, sweetheart. Have a wonderful weekend too.

for once, I havnt seen any of these on the list, Djins has me intrigued though, so I am greatful for the warning of not to expect a flawless horror.

Tucker and Dale, that sounds totally watchable. Im dying to see Blue Valentine, I know it will be depressing, but I also got a feeling I love it even though...thanks for the mini reviews!

Okay, so I need to see "Heartbreaker" that looks like a winner to me. I think I have seen it floating around Netflix so I will be placing that in the queue. But I MUST SEE "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil." Based on your wonderful description and the poster itself, I'm freakin' sold! Great post!

I would definitely still check out "Beastly." I personally enjoyed it which was a surprise. I think the critics were pretty harsh. I didn't expect such good acting. I love the Disney classic as well, it's definitely one of my top 3. : )

I knew nothing about "Djinns", but the poster looked so creepy and mysterious, it made me wanna see it. Although I enjoyed it overall, it left me a bit disappointed.

Francisco, "T & D" was quite fun to watch. However, for me, there was something missing. /Budget probably/.

"Blue Valentine" shows how a great love turns into hate, and that unfortunately happens in real life quite often.

You're welcome! :)

Nicole, "Heartbreaker" was a bit formulaic, but hugely enjoyable nonetheless and hundred times better than most American rom-coms released recently. Give it a shot.

"Tucker and Dale vs. Evil." was one of the bloodiest films I've seen in the past few years - tons of guts and gore! :) It was lacking a bit in execution, but other than that, it was well thought out and quite unique.

Blue Valentine is good, I loved how it shows how their relationship turned into such a mess, and I totally agree with you when you describe it as "emotionally involving"

Hey, nice blog!
I really liked Blue Valentine, but then again, I love those depressing movies. I think I'll go see Heartbreaker out of sheer curiosity. Are the French really better at making rom-coms than the Americans? Well, let's be honest: it's not that hard to accomplish that!

Hey, Chelsea, and welcome to CineMarvellous! :) Glad you like my blog, loved yours too ;) So, you're originally from Europe? I'm from Europe, too.
"Blue Valentine" was great, though its unsteady mood let the film down a bit. And yeah, the whole atmosphere was depressing.

Heartbreaker was a breath of fresh air in the rom-com genres. Not tha it's hard to make a romantic comedy. It's hard to make a good one, without using all the tired cliches. Give it a shot, I reckon you'll enjoy it a lot.

Minoccio, glad you liked the way I described it. I was certainly drawn into the characters and their tough relationship.
