Numerous QuickRatings PART 2: 2009 Movies

Le Petit Nicolas (2009)

QuickRating:
Original, quirky and thoroughly hilarious, "The Little Nicola" engages with its humorous story, odd yet extremely likable characters, stylish costumes and production design, and slick cinematography, and proves that the lack of substance is not necessarily an issue that may ruin the viewer's pleasure of cinematic enjoyment.

My Rating: 7.50/10

2:13 (2009)

QuickRating: Although it had the potential to be a decent entry into the serial killer genre, "Two:Thirteen" turned out to be yet another disappointingly mediocre effort, that suffers from unimaginative execution, lackluster direction, unnecessarily convoluted plot, utter laziness, and irrelevant conclusion that is as ridiculous as it's implausible.

My Rating: 4.50/10

The Girl Who Played with Fire (2009)

QuickRating: It may not be as skillfully-crafted and impressively compelling as its predecessor, but the second installment in Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy is a solid, intense, consistently gripping and visually-atmospheric crime thriller, led by the sensational Nooni Rapace and her mesmerizing performance as Lisbeth.

My Rating: 7.50/10

A Christmas Carol (2009)

QuickRating: As magical, darkly funny and edifying as its source material, but a bit too creepy and disturbing for younger kids, "A Christmas Carol" is a decently-crafted adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel, elevated by Kim Carrey's perky, vigorous voice work, but let down by its gloomy, unpolished and surprisingly unspectacular visuals.

My Rating: 6.00/10

I've only seen A Christmas Carol from this list and I prefer my old Patrick Stewart version. I will definitely check out Le Petit Nicolas and Girl Who Played with Fire. I'll probably save Two: Thirteen for a nothing-else-to-do-and-I'm-bored night.

Have an amazing weekend, sweetie. Can't wait to see what other titles you have coming up. :)

Mel, I've never seen Stewart's version of Christmas Carol, but I bet it's better than Zemeckis'.

Le Petit Nicolas was such a delight to watch, you should definitely check it out. It's quirkiness and uniqueness will make you smile constantly.

As for 2:13.. don't bother seeing it, even if you get bored, as you risk feeling twice as bored after the end credits :)

Have a wonderful weekend too, dear. Stay tuned for the other quickratings ;)

I haven't seen any of these! Although, I feel like I should see "A Christmas Carol", "The Girl who Played with Fire" and "La Petit Nicolas." "La Petit Nicolas" looks adorable.

I definitely agree that the "sex" book should be without Lohan. Franco is enough. : ) I kind of feel bad for her though.
"Hall Pass" is okay but only if you're looking to laugh at raunchy humor, which worked for me.
I am glad I watched "Burlesque" it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Aguilera did a great job-very surprising.

Have a Great Weekend!! ; )

Nicole, really? You should give "Nicolas" a shot. Yes, it was adorable, but quite unusual also. You'll love it.

I feel bad for Lohan too. I kinda liked her before. Do you remember her in Mean Girls? She was so cute and likable!

I hope "Hall Pass" is better than "Due Date". Watched the last one two days ago and found it painfully unfunny.

As for "Burlesque", yes, I was surprised too. It was quite fun.

I loved La Petit Nicholas! I had a high opinion of it :D

I've yet to watch 2:13 though.

Oh man I don't know. "Hall Pass" might be just as painful if you disliked "Due Date." I mean "Hall Pass" is a lot more delightful with a more perverted humor but it's nevertheless one of those stupid comedies. : )

Nicole, I still intend to see it, though I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna love it. :)

Awe thanks!! That means a lot coming from you! : ) I think you'll like "Rango" (at least visually) you seem to appreciate great animation. ; )

You're welcome ;) Nicole, I certainly do. I love watching animated features, it's one of my favorite genres.
