[6.75/10] Ramona and Beezus (2010)

Ramona and Beezus (2010)

Based on Beverly Cleary's "Ramona" series of children's novels, "Ramona and Beezus", unfolds around Ramona, who’s vivid imagination, boundless energy, and accident-prone antics are put to the test when she helps her family face its biggest challenge. Along the way, Ramona must deal with her over-achieving older sister Beezus and the on-again, off-again romance between her Aunt Bea and Bea’s former beau. "Ramona and Beezus"'s plot may be nothing groundbreaking or extremely original, but it is a joy to watch and consistently entertaining. Moreover, the film is filled with so many engaging and likable characters, itput a constant smile on my face. Little Joey King as one of the title characters delivers the 'show stealer' performance of the movie, as she's fun, energetic, smart, quirky, lively, creative and absolutely extraordinary as Ramona. Joey's only 11, but she has such a strong screen presence, it's unbelievable. Plus, she's adorable and cute as a button. Definitely, the best child performance of the year! Selena Gomez is such a beautiful and sweet girl, that her charm and charisma draw attention every time she appears on screen. Furthermore, she's a decent actress. John Corbett and Bridget Moynahan are also likable and very believable as the parents. John Corbett's character in particular is so kind, positive and caring, he should receive the "Father of the Year" award. Ginnifer Goodwin is just as amiable as Aunt Bea, and Josh Duhamel's charm and handsomeness add to the overall 'sweetness' of the movie. Elizabeth Allen's direction is imaginative and uplifting, the pacing is smooth, John Bailey's cinematography pleases the eye, and Ramona's 'dreamy' sequences are wonderfully-handled. Bright, lighthearted, hugely enjoyable and fantastically-performed, "Ramona and Beezus" is the cutest and the most feel-good movie of the year. Absolutely "teriffical"!

As many others (though somewhat in the minority since I'm a male reader), I read these books in grade school and enjoyed them.

I'm trying to get my kids to pick up some interest in reading them. I'm excited to see this flick...will probably wait until video though. I think my 6 year old girl will really like it. Not sure about my older boys, but we'll see. :)

Thanks for the review. :)

I've never read the books, but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. You should watch it with your kids, Okie. I bet they'll love it as well.
