[5.50/10] 4.3.2.1 (2010)

4.3.2.1 (2010)

Short review: A chance encounter with some diamond thieves sends 4 girls and best friends Joanne, Cassandra, Kerrys and Shannon from separate worlds on a collision course with not only each other, but fate itself. The tagline says: '4 Girls, 3 Days, 2 Cities, 1 Chance', and using a jumbled, yet fancily-edited plot structure, director Noel Clarke focuses on these four girls individually over three days, restarting the film three times in order to tell each one of their crazy stories. All four separate stories are merged into one in the end, with the events of each story been part of the others. Each of the four characters has something behind them, and shows you the troubles and struggles that many girls at this age are faced with nowdays. The four leads, Emma Roberts, Tamsin Egerton, Shanika Warren-Marland, and Ophelia Lovibond give pretty solid performances, latest being the stand out, plus there are some good cameos by Kevin Smith, Mandy Patinkin and Michelle Ryan. "4.3.2.1" is directed with a enthusiasm, and its multiple narrative and fast-paced editing make it often enjoyable to watch. However, depite its unique structure and stylish visuals, the film doesn't fully deliver, due to way too far-fetched story, a few pacing issues, unnecessary sex scenes and feminist cliches. Moreover, I've never seen so many selfish characters put in one movie. All in all, "4.3.2.1" is brisk, energetic and technically well-made, yet lacking in substance, and is only moderately entertaining.
