[4.00/10] Jonah Hex (2010)

Jonah Hex (2010)

Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, "Jonah Hex" follows the adventures of a bounty hunter in the Wild West, whose horrifically scarred face and personality hide his honorable nature. This is a set up for a movie that could potentially be great, or at least entertaining to watch, but unfortunately, it is far from it. While the original story is a simple, yet classic Western story, this movie is an unfortunate mash-up of some good and some terrible ideas, and the end result is a beyond disappointing and completely disjointed plot, that is unengaging, sluggish and ofter hard to follow. "Jonah Hex" also suffers from an incoherent script, as literally nothing is ever explained to the viewer. Josh Brolin as Hex provides an interesting and mysterious character, despite being surrounded by uninspired directing by Jimmy Hayward, a paper-thin story and some horrendous supporting performances. Megan Fox plays Lilah, a saloon hooker with a soft spot for Jonah, and while certainly eye-candy, she lacks any acting skills whatsoever, as she delivers her lines so stiffly, it's laughable. Malkovich is undoubtedly a great actor, but he is unbelievably mediocre as the villain here. Michael Fassbender, who I personally love, is almost invisible here, since his screen time is extremely limited. There are a couple of decent action sequences, but they're not enough to save the film from being a complete disaster. Nice art direction and charismatic lead performance from Josh Brolin aside, "Jonah Hex" ends up being probably the laziest, messiest and most unimaginative cinematic experience of 2010, that despite its short running time, still feels tediously overlong.

I've passed this film because of Megan Fox and because it has been badly panned by critics. Now your review again convinces that I've made the right decision :)

When the reviews for this film appeared far more entertaining than the movie itself, I knew to avoid it.

You've passed it because of Megan Fox? Do you dislike her that much, Jaccsy? Yes, she's dumb as a rock and terrible actress, but at the same time is a pleasure to watch, cause she's so gorgeous. I was amazed how bad this film was. Zero entertainment value!

Alex, I kinda agree with you here :) Reading all the negative reviews was far more interesting than the movie itslef.

I'm surprised that you even gave this 4 out of 10. :( It deserves only half of that just for the opening scenes after which it all went horribly wrong pretty fast.

Well, I've seen worse. I actually liked Josh Brolin as Jonah quite a lot - ha has strong screen presence and he did a good job.
