[6.50/10] StreetDance 3D (2010)

StreetDance 3D (2010)

Short review: "StreetDance 3D" may has a paper thin plot built on clichés, and is strictly by-the-numbers, but it's a fresh and vivacious dance flick, that is actually hugely engaging and enjoyable. It's about a streetdance crew who are forced to work with Royal ballet dancers in return for rehearsal space, while training for the UK Streetdance Championships. With no common ground and with passions riding high, they realize they need to find a way to join forces to win. The dance routines from Reality TV stars 'Diversity' (Britain's Got Talent winners) and 'Flawless' were perfectly-executed and a pure joy to watch. I thought the choreography was brilliantly creative, and all the dancers were very skillful. The soundtrack contained some nice contemporary British pop and r'n'b from Tinie Tempah, N-Dubz and Sugababes, to name a few. Acting-wise the movie was rather average, but the reactions and expressions of each character were believable enough. Charlotte Rampling as Helena was the real standout for me - so elegant, sophisticated and graceful. I can't really comment on the 3D effects, since I saw the film in 2D. Vastly better than its US predecessors "Step Up" and "Save the Last Dance", "StreetDance 3D" is entertaining, crisp and full of energy. It lacks originality and is rather predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless.

  • My Rating: 6.50/10
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 84% (6.2/10)
  • IMDb: 5.3/10

Didn't watch it in 3D, therefore I really don't know what the 3D effects are. I suppose the dance routines are much more effective and entertaining to watch in 3D. I was curious about this one, mainly because it's one of the very few British dance flicks, and because of Diversity and Flawless, whom I know well.

Nope, I haven't seen "Step Up 3D", but unfortunately I've seen its predecessors. :) Not a big fan. I'll probably wait for the DVD.
