[6.50/10] Cracks (2009)

Cracks (2009)

Short review: "Cracks" gives a look at the lives and relationships among girls and one of their teachers at an elite British boarding school. The story follows a clique of six girls, whose dynamic is thrown off kilter by the arrival of a beautiful new Spanish student Fiamma. It marks the feature debut of Jordan Scott, Ridley Scott's daughter, and it's obvious, she already possesses exceptional ability of how to command the camera and to shoot with a style. The plot and characters are deep and rich and incredibly colorful. The actresses are all flawless, especially Eva as the mysterious and silently crazy Miss. G, and Maria Valverde as the beautiful and sophisticated Fiamma. Juno Temple was impressive as the jealous and evilicious Di, as well. In technical terms, "Cracks" is also a winner - the cinematography is simply superb, the costumes are beautiful, and the music score is classy. Overall, "Cracks" has its flaws and it's far from amazing, but it's beautifully-executed, nicely-acted, and an above average debut from Ridley Scott's talented daughter, Jordan.

  • My Rating: 6.50/10
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 37% (5.2/10)
  • IMDb: 6.8/10

Love Eva Green in "Casino Royale" and after the disappointing "Golden Compass" I seriously can't wait to watch her in another decent film.

I have to admit, I didn't like her that much in "Casino Royale"... Her look is somewhat odd and so retro :) However, in "Cracks", she's a femme-fatale and she fits so well in film's overall atmosphere!

I found Cracks to be Green's best performance to date. Although the sometimes mediocre story does hinder this one from being exceptional.

I agree. It was definitely her best performance so far. She completely inhabited her character! However, the young Maria Valverde stole the show for me.
