"Frontier(s)" is a mixture of something we've already seen in minimum ten other films, and is still capable of being entertaining. Like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", the movie brings you into the personal horror of it's victims. It's not voyeuristic or prurient like "Hostel" for example. It's extremely violent, but you are clearly hoping the victims will escape. Where "Hostel" wants you to enjoy the suffering, the entertainment in "Frontier(s)" is the threat and attempt at escape from the suffering. The victimized youngsters here are a bunch of thieves who, to escape the ongoing street riots and potential police capture, unwisely take a deadly detour into an unwholesome motel in the middle of nowhere and, eventually, the hellish mansion situated in a disused mine. There is little point in telling what kinds of horrid tortures awaits our dubious heroes there - these tortures are some of the most disgusting and harrowing ever put on celluloid. Although credibility is strained for the sake of extended violent conflict at times, the violence level is high and realistic, and there are some impressive special effects to be enjoyed. Yes, "Frontier(s)" contains themes of torture and extreme violence, but there is a lot more to this film - hardly anyone mentioned the dehumanization which was a pretty evident theme. "Frontier(s)" obviously lacks originality, but the actors are all believable, the script is good and the editing is really nice done. It's also scary, tense, nasty and most of all disturbing - highly recommended for those who like their horror gruesome and mean.
