[4.00/10] Killers (2010)

Killers (2010)

"Killers" is a story about Jen, recently dumped, who goes on vacation with her parents to France where she meets Spencer, the man of her dreams. As they become three years married, violent secrets about lovely Spencer begin to unveil and then the adventures begins. The first half of the movie was the best, where the romance was the focus. Kutcher and Heigl have a nice romantic chemistry, which make them likable and a joy to watch. Katherine Heigl is attractive, but not that funny, even though her character is inherently quirky and nerdy. Kutcher is charming and goofy as always. The setting of the early part of the film, largely shot in Nice, France, was quite lovely and beautiful to watch. After forty minutes though when it comes to the action as friends and neighbors try and assassinate Spencer and Jen, "Killers" gets very silly, predictable, clichéd and nonsensical. None of the action sequences, whether car chases or close-quarters combat, are remotely surprising or invigorating. The downfall is that "Killers" isn't funny, at all. It doesn't aim for the gross-out, but the effort is generally underwhelming. On the positive side, the direction is bright and dynamic, and while the script is somewhat contrived, it still has some good moments. The standout in this "Killers" is Catherine O'Hara. She is given absolutely nothing to do and yet she is by far the funniest person in the film. All in all, "Killers" is silly rom-com/action hybrid, that while far from awful, is often predictable, formulaic and just not funny enough.

I thought the movie was a 5 or 6...I actually think Katherine Heigl makes it. She is really funny.

She's definitely very cute, charming and likable...and, yes, funny as well.

Given the right material, I still believe Heigl can be funny, sweet and smart. And taking Kutcher seriously as a hit man didn’t seem likely.

Jaccsy, Heigl certainly is smart and sweet. She was great in last year's "Ugly Truth" and in "27 Dresses" as well. This time she just wasn't funny enough for me. It wasn't her fault though, it was the script that wasn't very funny :) Nevertheless, I still like her a lot!
