[6.50/10] Duplicity (2009)

Duplicity (2009)

Short review: "Duplicity" is a seductive espionage thriller that gets to keep the audience engaged through all the plot's twists and turns. It's smart, complicated, well-written and directed, and there are plenty of good actors to split up the pie. At first sight the story could seem superficial, but everything proves to be in place when everything progresses. The labyrinth of espionage and counter plotting appears impenetrable, but without the viewer ever getting lost. The witty camera-work also succeeds in showing personality flaws, obsessions and some quips as well. Naturally there is plenty of elegant scenery – five star hotels, casinos and resorts, executive jets, huge offices, as well as the streets of Manhattan. As for the cast Julia Roberts and Clive Owen have a terrific chemistry and interaction. Not to be forgotten Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti, great in their roles as well. "Duplicity"'s not great, but it's a good old-fashioned piece of escapist entertainment lacking the usual violence and thuggery with two very photogenic leads and plenty of comic support.

  • My Rating: 6.50/10
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 65% (6.3/10)
  • IMDb: 6.4/10
