[6.75/10] Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009)

Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009)

Short review: Luckily this Jerry Bruckheimer produced flick has Isla Fisher as its headliner though. Not only is she gorgeous but she will probably grow to be one of the most gifted comic actresses around. A lot of what makes "Confessions of a Shopaholic" work is based around Fisher's performance. She's an adorable red-head and wild comedic actress that you can't help but like. She has good chemistry with a well cast Hugh Dancy, charming as the tightly wound British editor. The screenplay, by a trio of writers, bases all the laughs in broad comedy, mostly all about rabidly insane women and their shopping obsessions. It's sometimes funny, like when Rebecca ruins the progress of a support group for recovering shoppers, but soon all the talking mannequins and department store craziness just gets silly. It's an amusing little story though and while it takes a little long to finalize the romance, correct the debt, mend friendships, and learn a thing or two about financial responsibility, the themes here are identifiable and timely enough to keep interest. And director PJ Hogan avoids dumbing it down by taking a classier approach and finds affection for these characters. "Confessions of a Shopaholic" is Fisher's show though and it's a solid enough piece of work to support her while she shows off her considerable skill. The movie on the other hand is something you wish were funnier but is still pretty harmless, amusing and even nice to watch.

  • My Rating: 6.75/10
  • Rotten Tomatoes: 23% (4.3/10)
  • IMDb: 5.6/10

I haven't yet seen this movie, but I was quite surprised that it wasn't a bigger success in the cinemas. Since I work in the publishing industry I know how huge bestseller the book was, so I though the movie will have a similar impact like SEX AND THE CITY but it just didn't happen.

I can't understand what is Isla doing with Sasha Baron Cohen in her private life????

Isla has a relationship with Sasha Baron Cohen?! OMG! I didn't know that! She's got to be crazy! :)
Well, love is blind we know ;)
The movie wasn't as good as Sex and the City! I thought the last was pretty good and I can't wait for the sequel! I'm a fuge fan of the series as well. You have to check it out. ['Confessions' I mean.]It's great silly fun! :)Did you mention I've changed the address of my blog? I thought the previous prefix was way tooo long and... boring :) What do you think?

Not just a relationship, she's married to him, and they even have a child :)))

I'm also a huge fan of SEX AND THE CITY.

Yep, the new tittle is nice, I have to change your link in my blog list as well, otherwise it won't work over in HOLLYWOOD SPY :))

Shame on me, I didn't know about this marriage!
I like the new title much more that the previous one. It sounds cool! Well, not as cool as HOLLYWOOD SPY, but still.. ;)

But you should now change your tittle banner as well and make a brand new one :))
My old blogs were called A SNEAKY SPY PEEK FROM HOLLYWOOD (many years ago) and FILMANIA. But FILMANIA was already taken when I came to BLOGGER so I decided to call it HOLLYWOOD SPY because that's what I am :))

This banner was made by one of my RT friends [Dustin] two years ago. I'm not good in making banners.. at all! :)
I like your old blog title, but I think FILMANIA sounds too commercial and cliched! I prefer your current title HOLLYWOOD SPY - it sound much better and it's more original! Glad you picked exactly this title!
Are you good with photoshop? :) I bet you are ;) If you want [and have time] you can make a new banner for my blog... I'll be so happy!!! :)
Have a great weekend, H-Spy ;)

Actually I'm a total beginner in using Photoshop :) but don't tell anyone, I don't like ruining people's illusions about me :PP

But, if I find some time, I will try to make some nice banner for CINEMATIC PASSION ;p But don't raise your hopes.

Really? I thought you are good with Photoshop! It's ok, Dez! You are not obligated to do that ;)

I've changed my blog prefix AGAIN! Well, third time's a charm! I really wanted it to be just one word and CineMarvellous is what my mind invented :) Hope you like it. I wanted it to be unique [I hate this word! :)] I'm not going to change it anymore. I promised myself! ;)

I've seen you've been changin' things again :)) because whenever you do that noone can access your blog from the link in HOLLYWOOD SPY, so I always have problems paying you a visit :)))
The new name is cool as well ;)
